South Brunswick MOMS Club Making a Difference
Support group offers township mothers and kids social opportunities while also helping numerous causes.

With the stress for many parents associated with kids going back to school, nobody in the township knows those pressures better than the South Brunswick MOMS (MOMS Offering Moms Support) Club.
The township support group recently donated several backpacks and back to school supplies to South Brunswick's Social Services Department to aid the less fortunate, who face bigger concerns than buying notebooks and pens.
"Every year the MOMS Club likes to help out with donations around town, like if the township does a food drive, or in particular this one where we donated backpacks," said MOMS Club member Melissa Taylor. "We had a huge turnout for this with more than enough supplies for five backpacks, plus extra school supplies. Everyone was really excited about it because we love participating with everything that involves the town. We love living here."

The group of approximately 40 local moms meets about once a week for various events, including meetings, guest speakers, social events, and trips. But in general, the club is focused on providing socialization opportunities for mothers and young children.
"Basically the MOMS Club is an opportunity for moms in the township to get together and make new friends," Taylor said. "If you're a new mom in the area or a mom having your first child, this is a chance to get out, meet new people, and have your kids make new friends. It's just a really fun support group. We have created some long lasting friendships with members who stay in touch even after their kids get older."

The club also provides inexpensive trips for mothers and their kids, in addition to weekly playgroups at township parks or a member's residence. But the club also focuses on raising money for good causes with ongoing fundraisers.
"Every couple months we pick a charity to collect for. The last one we did was to raise money for " Taylor said. "We're also doing a fundraiser for one of our members with a child who has a rare disease. The money doesn't always go to South Brunswick charities. We've also donated to the women's shelter in Trenton. But we always try to hold food drives for the township food pantry."
Beyond the trips and the charitable donations, the MOMS Club is a place where South Brunswick mothers can find a group of women who know the joys and stresses they each face on a daily basis.
"This is a place to meet new people, make new friends and have a really nice support group," Taylor said. "If you're new in the neighborhood or just starting a family, you get to meet other moms experiencing many of the things you're experiencing. For me and many others, it's a great way to get out and socialize as individuals and with your children."
