South Brunswick PD Announces Start Of 'Operation Safe Schools'

Under the program, South Brunswick Police will be present at schools at the start and end of the school day during the first week.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Next week, thousands of township students head back to school for a new academic year. To keep students safe, Police Chief Raymond Hayducka announced that once again the South Brunswick Police Department will launch its highly successful “Operation Safe Schools” program.

Under the program, South Brunswick Police Department will have enhanced presence at all Township schools at the start and end of the school day during the first week and increased traffic enforcement in school zones.

“This year, we will once again use our Operation Safe Schools program to ensure a safe start to the school year. Our goal is to assist in a smooth transition for all students, parents, and teachers,” Hayducka said in a statement.

“We will have officers present at every school to increase our visibility. There will also be added traffic enforcement around the schools as motorists get adjusted to reduced speeds and added pedestrian traffic.”

The Police Department has asked motorists to add additional time for morning commutes. "We typically see added traffic around the schools during the first few weeks of the school year as parents and students get adjusted,” Hayducka said.

“Motorists need to add additional time for morning commutes. They should be alert for increased pedestrian crossings and school buses. Working together, we can make this a great start to the new school year."

South Brunswick Public School and the Noor Ul-Iman School are scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 9. Saint Augustine’s School begins on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
