South Brunswick Police Buy New Bike for Boy After His is Stolen
When a Timberline Court boy reported his bike had been stolen, these officers did much more than take a report.

South Brunswick, NJ - When a South Brunswick boy reported his bike had been stolen, these officers did much more than take a report.
On Aug. 17, police were called for a report of a stolen bicycle on Timberline Court. South Brunswick resident Florence Gutterman told officers that her 14-year-old grandson’s bicycle was stolen out of the back of his dad’s car. A stolen bike wasn't the first tough break her grandson had experienced in life: His mother died when he was four and his father recently fell ill. Gutterman told police her grandson is staying with her while his father is in the hospital. She also told the officers that her grandson kept the bicycle in his father’s car because it was difficult for him to carry it up the stairs to their second-floor apartment.
But the South Brunwick PD did more than just file a stolen bike report: Sgt. Michael Kuchma, Officer William Merkler, Officer John Niper, Officer Domenick DeLucia, Officer William Bonura, Officer Bryan Garrison, Officer Gagan Chopra and Officer Aaron Parks decided to all pitch in and buy him a new bike. They went to the South Brunswick Target on Rt. 1 and bought him a new bike, and a lock. Last Sunday, Aug. 21, the officers showed up at the home and gave the teen his new bike. The teen and his grandmother were overcome with surprise and emotion, police said.
