SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Police Chief Raymond Hayducka has praised a resident who was involved in an incident where they thought a child was in danger.

On Tuesday, the Savage Road resident got involved when they thought a child was being abducted. The resident saw an interaction between a young girl and an older man in which the girl was pretending the man wanted to give her candy and have her get in the car, police said.

The resident immediately asked the young girl if she was okay. Although the young girl said she was, the resident followed the car the girl got into and called 911, authorities said.

Police tracked down the car and learned the man was the little girl’s grandfather and there was no problem.

“So often it just takes one person getting involved to make a difference,” Hayducka said. “Here the resident stepped up, confronted the situation, got a license plate and called 911. She made a difference and it all worked out.”

The girl’s mother later went on to social media to apologize for the confusion and thanked the police for their prompt response in making sure her daughter was okay.
