South Brunswick Police Investigating Fireworks Set Off Possibly in Connection with Diwali

More than 15 reports of fireworks set off Wednesday night in Deans Pond Crossing and on Georges Road.

South Brunswick police are investigating several reports of fireworks being set off around the township Wednesday night, police said.

Since 8 p.m. Wednesday, there have been more than 15 reports of fireworks being set off in Deans Pond Crossing development, the area near South Brunswick High School, and Georges Road near Culver Road.

Police say the fireworks appear to be connected to the celebration of Diwali, the Indian holiday that was observed Wednesday night. Diwali is the celebration of light over darkness, and the celebration of knowledge over ignorance. Indians often celebrate it by decorating their homes with thousands of colorful lights, candles and brightly colored designs.
