“CALEA accreditation is the highest level of recognition of law enforcement excellence. South Brunswick Police Department first received CALEA accreditation in 2014 and was reaccredited in 2017,” said Hayducka.

He said the accreditation process is ongoing and requires the department examine its procedures and operations on a regular basis. An inspection is conducted every four to verify that the department continues to meet the Commission’s standards.

“Excellence is only achieved through constant pursuit of improvement. This process allows us to continue that pursuit,” said Hayducka.

The police department is one of only eight municipal law enforcement agencies in New Jersey currently accredited by CALEA.

CALEA has assigned an assessment team for South Brunswick Police Department’s reaccreditation, which will be led by Kenneth Gregory, Deputy Chief of the St. Louis County (MO) Police Department, and Teresa Biffle, a Captain with the Greensboro (NC) Police Department. Both serve similar out-of-state agencies. They will review written materials and interview individuals to verify South Brunswick Police Department meets CALEA’s standards for reaccreditation. Based on their input, CALEA will determine if South Brunswick Police Department will be reaccredited for another four years.
