South Brunswick Police Prevent Two Heroin Overdoses In Just 10 Hours
The police chief credited fast reporting and response time in saving both men's lives.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ-- South Brunswick Police officers saved two heroin overdose victims in a ten hour period on Friday, police told Patch.
Police Chief Raymond Hayduka credited the quick reporting of the victims friends and the quick response times of the SBPD in helping save the men's lives.
"It is become all t0o common that officers are faced with life and death scenarios on how fast they can counteract the effects of heroin," Hayduka said. Both men were revived using Narcan, the name brand of naloxone, a medicine that combats heroin and other opioid overdoses until a victim can be transported to a hospital.

The first call came in around 11:00 AM: a woman called 911 after her boyfriend passed out after using heroin in a car at the East Garden Apartment Complex. Within minutes, police officers were at the scene, and gave the barely-breathing 19-year-old two doses of Narcan to revive him.
He was taken by EMS to a local hospital, and was later released.

The second call came ten hours later, at 9:00 PM. A 911 call reported a man was overdosing from heroin in a car parking in the Home Depot Parking lot. Again, police officers used Narcan, reviving the unconscious 24-year-old before Kendall Park First Aid Squad transported him to the hospital.
