South Brunswick Teen, 17, Charged In Rutgers Sex Assault

Rutgers police and the county prosecutor say a 17-year-old South Brunswick teen entered a student's dorm room and sexually molested her.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Rutgers campus police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office announced Monday afternoon they arrested a suspect in the on-campus sexual assault that occurred over the weekend, and that a 17-year-old teen from South Brunswick has been arrested and charged with the crime.

Police say that at 7:40 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 the juvenile gained entry into a Quad 2 dorm on the Livingston campus in Piscataway, and engaged in criminal sexual contact with a young woman, a Rutgers student, while she was sleeping in her dorm room.

When the young woman awoke, the suspect immediately exited the room and fled from the area on foot, police said. The young woman told police her door was not locked. She was not physically injured during the encounter.

The perpetrator was described as a 20-year-old Hispanic or Indian man, approximately 5-feet, 7- inches tall, thin build with black hair, wearing glasses with a pink shirt with blue jeans, police said.

The South Brunswick teen is charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact, criminal sexual contact and burglary. His name will not be released he is a juvenile.

Quad 2 dorms are located at 99 Road 3 in Piscataway; they are pictured above. In the wake of the incident, Rutgers police reminded students not to prop open dorm doors.
