South Brunswick Track Wins Multiple Individual Medals at Eastern States Championships
Vikings set school marks in 4x200 and 4x400.

Considering how far the South Brunswick High track team had to go for its meet on Tuesday, the Vikings wanted to make sure it was worth the trip.
A day after the Eastern States Championships at the New York Armory, South Brunswick Coach Stefan Moorhead wanted to make sure everyone knew "it was worth the trip."
South Brunswick recorded school records in the 4x200 and 4x400. Mariah Browne also managed the furthest long jump by any girl in the state of New Jersey thus far this year.

"We had some great performances," Moorhead said. "The kids did really well."
The 4x200 team of Alicia Osley, Mariah Browne, Janae Baker and Rachel Johnson placed fifth in a time of 1:43.35.

"Three of the four same girls set the school record at the same meet last year," Moorhead said. "They basically reset the record they set last year."
The 4x400 team of Baker, Joy Spriggs, Cayla DelPiano and Osley placed second in a time of 3:57.91.
"We knew this group had the potential," Moorhead said. "They have all been running fast times. It's nice to see the girls put it all together. They not only went under four minutes, they went way under it."
Individually, South Brunswick had three medalists. Included in that group was a second-place finish by Browne in the long jump. Browne's distance of 18' 7 1/4" was the best long jump from a New Jersey girl thus far this season.
"The long jump and triple jump aren't official events in the winter, but she was the state champion last spring," Moorhead noted of Browne. "She has a great resume and we want to get her in as many meets as we can."
Dominick Padovano was third in the shot put with a personal record of 55' 10".
"He likes the competition," Moorhead said. "He gets pumped up for the big meets."
Del Piano finished sixth in the 800 with a personal record of 2:17.79.
South Brunswick will be active in another big meet when it takes part in the New Balance Indoor Nationals on March 11-13, also set for the New York Armory.
Osley will compete in the 400, DelPiano the mile, Derek Forthun the pentathlon, Padovano the shot put and Browne the long jump and triple jump. The girls 4x200, 4x400 and medley relay teams will also compete.
"We'll be kind of busy," Moorhead said. "They earned the right to be there and it will be fun."
