South Brunswick Will Comply With Transgender Guidelines From Obama, Superintendent Says

What do you think of the guidelines released by the Obama administration?

South Brunswick, NJ - The South Brunswick school district will comply with the federal guidelines released last week by the Obama administration on how best to deal with transgender students.

When asked by TAP Into, acting Superintendent Richard Chromey said South Brunswick would follow Obama's recommendation.

“Our district has had longstanding success in accommodating our transgender students,” Chromey said in a telephone interview Monday. “Over the last couple of years we have worked successfully with our transgender students and their families to address any bathroom issues.”

Obama's transgender guidelines are controversial: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott outright told school districts in his state to ignore the guidelines. Other governors have done the same, including North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory

"Obama can't rewrite the Civil Rights Act. He's not a king," Abbott tweeted.

Chromey said transgender students make up "a small percentage" of South Brunswick's 9,000 students.
