Teen Faces Charges In Fatal North Brunswick Shooting: Prosecutor

Police said the teen is the second juvenile charged with the shooting death of Mark Atkins, 18, of Plainfield.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Authorities said a second teen was taken into custody Monday after being charged last week in a shooting that killed a man and left another teen injured.

According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Joseph Battaglia of the North Brunswick Township Police Department, the teen is the second juvenile charged with the shooting death of Mark Atkins, 18, of Plainfield.

Two juveniles, both 17 and from North Brunswick, have been charged with juvenile delinquency for offenses prosecutors say would constitute murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose in connection to a fatal shooting which occurred Feb. 3.

Police said at approximately 7:30 p.m., authorities responded to Marc Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, police said they found one of the juveniles with non-fatal gunshot wound. They found Atkins had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, said police. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, officials said.
