THE NEW BRUNSWICK PARKING AUTHORITY BRINGS CARSHARE TO THE CITY (UPDATED)

The New Brunswick Parking Authority understands the transportation needs of city residents and is now offering an important option in a partnership with Enterprise CarShare.

Car sharing is part of the continuing effort of the NBPA in recognizing the need for sustainable alternatives in parking and transportation. Residents in the City of New Brunswick, like residents in many other urban centers, who own vehicles, face the challenge of decreasing inventory of on street parking.  CarShare will provide residents and visitors alike, the convenient accessibility to the use of a rental vehicle at two NBPA facilities on either side of the City. Fewer vehicles on the street result in more available parking spaces for residents and patrons supporting local businesses.

New Brunswick CarShare users will have access to vehicles at two convenient locations; the Gateway garage at 7 Wall Street and the Morris Street Deck at 70 New Street. The Gateway garage offers a uniquely convenient location with its walkway connected to the train station while the Morris Street Deck is in close proximity of the Heldrich Hotel. Members can reserve a car by the hour, day or overnight for one all-inclusive price. Signing up and renting a car is simple -- and can be done easily on a mobile device, tablet or desktop computer.

“The Parking Authority is delighted to be able to join up with Enterprise CarShare and offer this valuable service to New Brunswick residents and its visitors, said Mitch Karon, Executive Director”.  “I am confident that this program will be successful and ultimately will be extended so that cars can be picked up and dropped off throughout the city.” “Our goal is to offer an alternative to owning and maintaining a vehicle by implementing a car sharing program in New Brunswick.” Karon said.

The partnership between the NBPA and Enterprise CarShare and its expansion into New Brunswick will provide area residents with a car share option that features up-to-date vehicles and first rate customer service,” said Ryan Johnson, assistant vice president of Enterprise CarShare. “As urbanization continues, car sharing plays an increasingly significant role in serving local transportation needs, and our service is poised for continued growth throughout the entire region.”
