5 Middlesex County Towns Increase DUI Patrols Aug. 16 - Sept. 3

Grants will be used to pay police overtime to look for drunk, drugged or otherwise impaired driving from now through Labor Day weekend.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — Heads up: These five Middlesex County towns received additional drunk driving patrol funds for the rest of summer 2019.

North Brunswick, Sayreville, Old Bridge, Monroe, Edison and Dunellen each applied for, and were given, $5,500 grants from the federal Division of Highway Traffic Safety. The money will be used to pay for police overtime to look for drunk, drugged or otherwise impaired driving from now through Labor Day weekend.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign will officially run from this Friday, August 16 through September 3, according to the federal government.

"As we head into the final weeks of summer and the busy Labor Day driving weekend, our officers will be stepping up efforts, working longer hours and increasing sobriety checks to keep intoxicated drivers off the road," said Eric Heitmann, director of the Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
