Traffic Delays In Middlesex County Because Of Turnpike Truck Fire

There were massive traffic delays in Central Jersey Tuesday, after a truck fire shut down part of the New Jersey Turnpike.

The northbound truck lanes on the New Jersey Turnpike re-opened around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, State Police said. The car lanes re-opened a few hours later, according to WABC.

But the Exit 10 ramp for northbound express lanes remained closed around 4:30 p.m..

All southbound lanes remained closed at Exit 14 around 4:30 p.m..

The New Jersey Turnpike near Exit 13A had been shut down in both directions because of a serious truck crash Tuesday morning, State Police said.

Here’s a list of other traffic delays throughout Middlesex County and the surrounding area, as of 4:30 p.m. The delays were caused by the truck fire, according to the state’s traffic website:

  • “NJ Turnpike Auth.: Delays on NJ Turnpike Northbound Inner and Outer roadways from South of interchange 9 to Interchange 10 due to prior accident with roadway diversion
  • “NJ Turnpike Auth.: Delays on NJ Turnpike Northbound Inner and Outer roadways from South of interchange 9 to Interchange 10 due to prior accident with roadway diversion.
  • “NJ DOT - STMC: Delays on NJ 440 southbound between South of US 9/Garden State Parkway (Woodbridge Twp) and New Jersey Turnpike/I-287 (Edison Twp) delays due to an incident on NJTPK

State Police said drivers should expect delays to continue through the evening rush hour.

The truck was fully engulfed in flames on the southbound side of the highway, near mile marker 97, under an overpass, police said.

The truck lanes had been closed north and south near Exit 13A. Southbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 14.

WABC News said a dump truck flipped over in Linden and caught fire around 10:45 a.m.
