U.S. Safety Agency Not Investigating South Brunswick Tesla Crash

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was gathering information on Monday's crash on Route 1.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The U.S. auto safety agency on Wednesday told Patch it was not investigating the Tesla crash in South Brunswick.

According to a report from Reuters earlier this week , the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicated they was gathering information on the crash.

On Monday, a "distracted" driver crashed his Tesla into a broken-down tractor trailer on Route 1.

According to the police, the 44-year-old driver from Baltimore had cruise control on when he momentarily lost focus and crashed into tractor trailer.

He suffered minor injuries, but the impact was so severe it sheared the roof off the passenger's side, police said.

“NHTSA is aware of the incident involving a Tesla vehicle around South Brunswick, New Jersey. After discussions with Tesla and local law enforcement, the agency has decided not to launch a Special Crash Investigation team to investigate the crash at this time,” a representative of NHTSA told Patch in statement.
