Update: School Officials Proud of "Best Music Community" Designation

South Brunswick school official: music is a top priority at South Brunswick schools; district named as one of the best for music education.

School Brunswick school officials say they are proud to be designated as one the 2015 Best Communities for Music Education.

The district is one of only 388 in the country and one of 27 in New Jersey to be named to the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation’s list of the Best Communities for Music Education.

Robert Sears, the district’s K-12 Supervisor of Music, said music education is a top priority in South Brunswick.

“Our dedicated, passionate, and talented music department is where it all begins,’’ he said. “We are fortunate to have such a caring and supportive community, staff, administration, and Board of Education that value and support music education in our schools.”

The NAMM Foundation recognizes districts where school staff, parents, students and members of the community have worked to make music part of the core curriculum, according to a news release from the foundation.

Some 1.3 million elementary school students nationwide have no access to music classes, the news release said.
