Reminder: South Brunswick Gas Compressor Meeting Thursday Night
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will hold a meeting Thursday night, to gauge public reaction to the compressor station.

Franklin Township, NJ - A public scoping session on an extremely controversial natural gas compressor station proposed for the South Brunswick/Franklin border will be held Thursday night, Sept. 15 in Somerset. The meeting will be held by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the federal agency that ultimately gives approval over whether the compressor station is built.
The meeting is hosted by the federal government and will run from 5:00 - 9 p.m. at the Franklin Township Community Senior Center. It is a chance for citizens to voice their thoughts. FERC officials will not be making any type of formal presentation. Instead, this is a scoping session meant to gather public opinion of the project.
The current proposal is to build a natural gas compressor just 400 feet from the Princeton Walk community, something Stop Compressor Station 206, a group of concerned residents, opposes. Citing noise concerns, environmental pollution and potential health problems, the group wants to stop the Williams Company from building the compressor. There are also concerns that a nearby rock quarry could cause a rupture in the gas lines that feed the compressor. Meanwhile, a spokesman for Williams tells Patch it will be no louder than a refrigerator and will cause no environmental damage.
