WATCH: Police Pursue Catalytic Converter Thieves In South Brunswick
Catalytic converter thefts have increased and police recently released dashcam footage of officers pursuing thieves.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Police Department recently said that around 30 catalytic converter thefts were reported in the township.
Most of these thefts occur during the overnight hours and police have engaged in a pursuit of the thieves many times. Police recently posted the dashcam footage of the pursuit, noting that it was dangerous to motorists.
"Catalytic converter thefts suspects show reckless disregard in fleeing their crimes," police said. "Each night these suspects put countless lives in jeopardy as they flee police." To watch the video, click here.

Police Chief Raymond Hayducka has also called the thefts an "epidemic" in NJ.

“The catalytic converter problem in New Jersey is at epidemic levels. We are partnering with county and State law enforcement to track these suspects, but there are multiple crews operating throughout the state,” Hayducka said.
Police have asked residents to remain alert as thieves usually target residential areas.
