Scary Video Shows Distracted Driving on Rt. 1 At Deans Lane

No, this isn't the latest Vin Diesel movie. It's actual dash cam video captured on Rt. 1 in South Brunswick Wednesday night.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - No, this terrifying video isn't from the latest Vin Diesel movie. It's actual dash cam video captured on Rt. 1 in South Brunswick Wednesday night and it shows the dangers of distracted driving.

The 21 year old driver was headed on Rt. 1 southbound near Deans Lane when he became distracted and struck the center median, said South Brunswick police, who released the video. The 21-year-old was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury. His 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser became disabled after the crash.

The entire incident was captured on a motorist’s camera who was headed in the opposite direction.

"If the driver had not struck the impact attenuator at the intersection, he would have crossed directly into northbound traffic," said South Brunswick police Chief Raymond Hayducka. "Distracted driving is the leading cause of crashes in the state."

Police said they weren't sure what distracted the driving, but that he may have been reaching for something.
