WEATHER ALERT: Flash Flooding, Thunderstorms To Hit Middlesex County
At least an inch is expected to fall across the region, and the region could get "clobbered" by floods, wind and road closures.

Middlesex County is expected to get “clobbered” by heavy rain, thunderstorms and heavy winds later Thursday, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service has issued a ”Hazardous Weather Outlook,” saying showers and thunderstorms will develop across the region Thursday afternoon and evening, with a slow moving cold front.
There is the potential for locally heavy rain with thunderstorms, which could lead to flash flooding especially in poor drainage areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Cities that can be “clobbered” with travel-disrupting downpours include Boston; New York City; Philadelphia; Washington, D.C.; Richmond, Virginia; Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina; Atlanta; Birmingham, Alabama; Jackson, Mississippi; and Lafayette, Louisiana, according to Accuweather.

Here is the National Weather Service’s forecast:
Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Southeast wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a 10th of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 71. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 82. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Friday night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
