Town reports highest weekly total since May. Officials said community spread within family groups responsible for increase.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — On Tuesday South Brunswick reported COVID cases in the double digits again, with 24 positive cases last week. This is the highest number of new weekly cases since early May, said town officials.

This number surpasses the biggest increase reported the week of Sep. 27-Oct. 3, when 19 people tested positive.

The average age of the 24 people who tested positive last week was 36 years. Eleven were male and 13 females. In addition to the 24 new cases, officials were informed of six additional cases confirmed from previous months.

The total number of COVID positive cases in town now stand at 607.

Officials attributed last week’s increase to community spread within family groups. “In addition, there was a backlog in reporting by a lab, causing numbers to be higher when numbers were released,” said officials.
