Willows Swim Team Kicks off New Season
Daniel Badawy breaks two records, including a record that has stood since 1972.
The Willows swim team started their 2012 competing in two dual meets in the extremely competitive “A” league.
On Wednesday, the Willows hosted the Frog Hollow Swim Club. Final Score, 171 to 105.
Despite the loss the Willows had one swimmer that broke two records, one dating 40 years ago. Daniel Badawy first swam the boys 8/under 25 meter butterfly in 17.48. He then swam his second event, the boys 8/under 25 free with a time of 16.95, shattering the record set in 1972.

Three days later the Willows hosted the Roycefield Swim Club. In spite of a stronger showing, the Willows fell, 161 to 115.
The Willows are excited with their team of coaches this season. Head coaching is Meredith Trabilsy. Trabilsy swam for Cedar Hill Swim Club for 14 years. In addition, Meredith was a member of the Scarlett Aquatic Club and Somerset Valley YMCA.

After swimming for years, she now focuses on coaching, first serving as an assistant coach to the Somerset Valley Sandsharks as well as head coach for Keene High School. She is currently a junior at Keene State College in NH where she is studying Sociology and minoring in Chemical Dependency.
Assitant coaching are two veteran Willows swimmers. Chris Hochman has been a Willows member since 1999. Chris has been swimming since he was 6-years-old for teams including Willows, Riptide, St. Joes and South Brunswick High School. He has held several records throughout his career. He is currently a student at West Virginia University studying Criminal Justice and minoring in History.
Also assisting is Abby Weingarten. Abby is using her swim knowledge to coach the 8/u age group. She swam for the Willows for 11 years. Ms. Weingarten also has South Brunswick High School and Riptide club swimming experience where she is also holding several records. Abby is now a member of the American University Women’s swim team. Abby is a junior at American where she is studying Political Science.
