Zoning Board Approves New Popeyes For Rt. 1 South Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The Zoning Board last month approved a new Popeyes drive-thru window on Rt. 1, next to White Castle.

Developers Kaplan Companies filed an application with the South Brunswick Zoning Board for preliminary site plan approval with use and bulk variances, to build an approximately 2,338 square-foot restaurant on the 9.93-acre site.

The property currently has a 2,584-square-foot White Castle Restaurant. The Popeyes will be built on an adjacent site. The site is surrounded by wooded land and has a Taco Bell to the north and a Dunkin Donut to the south.

No loading zone is required or proposed as the business is not a 24-hour operation. deliveries are expected to be made early in the morning, and delivery vehicles will leave before the business opens.

A use variance is required as a fast food restaurant is not permitted in the C3 zone, according to official documents.
