📰 News we're reading

• Women's basketball acquires Georgia Tech transfer Jada Crawshaw (thesetonian.com) — Seton Hall’s women’s basketball program in South Orange is adding Georgia Tech transfer forward Jada Crawshaw to bolster its frontcourt next season. The Sydney native brings ACC and Big West experience plus strong international play with Australia’s NBL1 East, giving Pirates fans hope for more scoring and depth in the paint.

• It Happened in Hillsborough: The Millstone Trolley? (tapinto.net) — A newly revisited piece of local history highlights an ambitious 1890s plan for a New York-to-Philadelphia electric trolley that would have run directly through South Orange and Maplewood. The line, which also would have served Millstone and many other New Jersey towns, was never built, but the story shows how different regional travel and development might have been.

• South Orange Declares Gun Violence Awareness Day: NJ Ranks #7, But Action Needed (tapinto.net) — South Orange has officially proclaimed the first Friday in June 2026 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day and is urging residents to wear orange on June 5. Local officials and advocates highlight New Jersey’s relatively strong gun laws but warn of rising firearm ownership, funding cuts to violence intervention programs, and federal proposals they say could weaken state protections, while encouraging residents to stay engaged.
