Millburn community members, students, faith leaders, educators, artists, and local organizations will come together on Sunday, June 14, for Millburn Celebrates Juneteenth 2026, an intergenerational event centered on service, education, leadership, and hope for the future, sponsored by BAMS (Black Americans of Millburn-Short Hills).
The event will take place from 3:00–4:30 p.m. at the Bauer Community Center and will feature cultural performances, youth leadership showcases, educational presentations, community recognition, and a large-scale community peanut butter drive benefiting families experiencing food insecurity.
BAMS is inviting the broader community to participate in the initiative’s ambitious goal of collecting 1,000 jars of peanut butter through schools, congregations, civic groups, businesses, and local residents.
“Juneteenth is both a remembrance and a call to action,” organizers shared. “This celebration is designed to honor history while inspiring service, innovation, community connection, and future-focused leadership led by young people.”
The event seeks to reimagine Juneteenth not simply as a commemoration, but as a community impact experience that uplifts youth voice, strengthens partnerships, and encourages collective responsibility.
The afternoon program will include:
A welcome celebration featuring music, educational displays, and the 1,000 Jar Impact Display
Remarks from local leadership and community partners
A cultural performance presented by Mt. Zion AME Church
A special George Washington Carver feature highlighting innovation, entrepreneurship, STEM, agriculture, and community transformation
Student-led performances and creative reflections presented by BSU students
A presentation from the local Interfaith Food Pantry on the importance of addressing food insecurity
The official 1,000 Jar Community Impact Reveal and community recognition ceremony
The celebration will prominently feature BAMS students and alumni throughout the event as performers, emcees, ambassadors, photographers, volunteers, and youth leaders, helping create a visibly student-centered and empowering experience.
In preparation for the event, organizers are also inviting additional community participation and partnership support. Local residents and organizations are encouraged to contribute jars of peanut butter and help expand awareness of the initiative through schools, businesses, houses of worship, and community networks.
Community members interested in supporting the drive or participating in the celebration are encouraged to attend on June 14 and help advance the event’s mission of service, education, and collective impact.
