2 Drivers Killed in Crash with Vacant Building

Police are investigating a crash that left both drivers dead in Roselle Saturday afternoon.

ROSELLE, NJ -- Roselle police investigators are trying to figure out how two cars crashed into a vacant building killing both drivers early Saturday morning.

Fabiana Escandon, 22, of Linden, and Oscar Chaviano, 64, of Elizabeth, were both killed shortly before 3 a.m. when their cars crashed into a vacant building at the corner of St. George Avenue of Rivington Street, according to the Roselle Police Department. Both drivers were heading west on St. George Avenue before the crash.

Escandon, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra, was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, but she succumbed to her injuries. Chaviano, the driver of a 2006 Subaru Impreza, died at the scene.

A Roselle Police Department officer declined to tell Patch what may have caused the crash nor if alcohol or drugs played a role. The wreck remains under investigation.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to call the Roselle Police Department Traffic Safety Unit at 908-245-2000.
