9-Year-Old Union Student's Airsoft Gun Not Found To Be Threat

UNION, NJ — A lockdown at a Union elementary school was lifted after police determined an inoperable gun was not a threat on Monday morning.

Livingston Elementary School was placed on lockdown in the morning following a report of a student with a gun, Union Township Police said.

Police found that a 9-year-old had brought an inoperable airsoft gun to school to show his friends, police said.

Police took the gun from his backpack and found it did not work.

"The gun was simply brought to show his friends, there was no threat associated with the gun," Township of Union NJ Police Department stated.

The lockdown was lifted and the school plans to follow up with the student and his family.
