The following is a summary of incidents as reported by Springfield Police:
SPRINGFIELD, NJ — On May 3, officers were dispatched to Route 22 on a report of an erratic driver. The vehicle was located idling on the shoulder of the highway, with the driver asleep at the wheel. The driver, a 39-year-old Linden man, was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence and refusal to submit to a breath test.
On May 6, a 45-year-old unhoused man was charged with burglary and criminal trespass. The charges were the culmination of a Detective Bureau investigation of a burglary to a Mountain Avenue residence reported on April 16.
On May 6, police charged a man in a case from March 30, when patrol officers responded to a Route 22 business on a report of a male exposing himself. As a result of a follow-up investigation by Detective Bureau personnel, a 38-year-old Shreveport, Louisiana man was charged with lewdness.
On May 6, officers responded to Briant Park Drive on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Summit Police officers also at the scene advised the driver of the vehicle was observed asleep behind the wheel. The driver, a 37-year-old Irvington man, was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence.
On May 7, a 28-year-old Detroit, MI man was charged with theft by deception, possession of counterfeit government identification, and forgery as a result of a Detective Bureau investigation of fraud reported at a South Springfield Avenue service station.
On May 7, an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle with front end damage traveling the wrong way on Maple Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle was confirmed to have fled the scene of an accident in Millburn. The driver, a 37-year-old Springfield man, was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence.
On May 7, a 26-year-old Vauxhall man and a 32-year-old Union man were charged with theft of movable property as a result of a Detective Bureau investigation of theft reported at a Morris Turnpike grocery store.
On May 10, a 29-year-old Jersey City man was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Palisades as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 22.
On May 11, an officer on routine patrol conducted a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle being operated with its headlights off, and failing to maintain its lane on Morris Avenue. The driver, a 42-year-old Summit man, was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence and refusal to submit breath samples.
On May 11, a 68-year-old Kenilworth man was charged with theft of movable property as a result of a Detective Bureau investigation of shoplifting reported at a Route 22 business.
