Officials say the capped and filled culvert will now undergo utility coordination and roadway restoration, promising a long-term infrastructure upgrade that should ease disrupted traffic patterns and benefit Springfield residents for decades.
2. Springfield PD Mourns Loss Of Retired Sergeant Who Died After Long Illness (patch.com) — Springfield is mourning retired Police Sgt. Angelo Bonavitacola, who served the township for 30 years in roles ranging from bike patrol to DARE officer. Colleagues remember him as a humble, deeply caring officer whose greatest motivation was helping others, and the department says his dedication to the Township of Springfield will not be forgotten.

Union's Revolutionary War History: The Battle of Connecticut Farms (tapinto.net) — A new historical feature traces how British troops pushed through Union toward Springfield during the 1780 Battle of Connecticut Farms, highlighting key skirmishes at the Rahway River in Springfield. Local historian Tom Beisler explains how our area’s terrain delayed the British, shaped the later Battle of Springfield, and helped end large-scale British invasions of New Jersey.
