SPRINGDFIELD, NJ - The Springfield Recreation Department has a full slate of activities lined up for residents 55 and older this month, from fitness classes and games to a bus trip and a community blood drive.
Regular programming includes games such as bingo, poker, dominoes, Rummikub and puzzles, along with computer lab access and a fitness room open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Exercise classes on offer include "Shape Up with Liz," "Forever Fit with Betsy," "Kickboxing with Andrew," and "Exercise, Movies, and Music with Union Township Health Department." Indoor open-play pickleball is also available. Free annual registration is required for pickleball, fitness room access and exercise classes.
Special events this month include a bus trip to Turtle Back Zoo and McLoone's in West Orange and an Art with Andrea session — both require an RSVP. The Springfield Senior Citizens Club meeting also requires an RSVP and a $5 payment by Thursday, June 11.
On Monday, June 15, eligible residents can donate blood at the Chisholm Community Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the New York Blood Center at (732) 672-5281; walk-ins are also welcome.
The Springfield Community Pool is open on weekends, with weekday hours starting soon. Residents who haven't yet registered for the summer can do so at www.thesay.org/scp or by calling the Summit Area YMCA at (908) 273-3330.
Free weekday in-Springfield bus service runs from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some exceptions. Advance reservations are encouraged; call (973) 912-2227.
