Springfield Public Schools Summer Enrichment Program Opens June 23

From model rocketry to fencing to chess, the morning program at E.V. Walton offers 15 courses across four one-hour time slots.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Springfield Public Schools is running its 2026 Summer Enrichment Program from June 23 through July 16, giving students entering grades 1 through 5 a chance to explore a wide range of activities — from rocketry to fencing to chess — in one-hour morning classes.

The program runs weekday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon at the Edward V. Walton Early Childhood Center at 601 Mountain Avenue. There are no classes on July 3 or July 10. Each one-hour class costs $180, and all courses require a minimum of 10 students to run.

Course offerings span four time slots between 8 a.m. and noon and cover a wide range of interests. Active options include Backyard Sports Evolution, Nature Explorers & Wilderness Games, Fencing, Numbers Sports & Fitness, Bowling, and Pot Luck Movement. STEM-focused classes include Engineering with K'NEX and Model Rocketry, where students build and launch rockets that can reach 500 feet. Creative options include a Creative Arts Studio and Gratitude Journals. Strategy and mindfulness courses include Strategic Math Games, Chess, Building with Legos, and Yoga for Kids.
