75-Year-Old Charged In Theft Investigation; Several Other Incidents Reported In Springfield, Police Say

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — A 75-year-old Vauxhall man was charged following an investigation into multiple reported thefts at a Springfield service station, according to police.

The case was among several theft-related investigations reported in Springfield during the first half of July, including incidents involving local businesses on Morris Avenue, Mountain Avenue and Springfield Avenue.

Police said the 75-year-old man was charged with two counts of theft of movable property following an investigation into multiple thefts reported at a Morris Avenue service station.

Another investigation began on July 2 after a reported shoplifting incident at a Morris Avenue pharmacy.

Police said an officer later stopped a vehicle matching the description of one connected to the incident and identified the driver as a suspect. A 30-year-old Orange man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, theft, and outstanding warrants from Hanover and Bergen, police said.

On July 6, a 38-year-old Newark man was charged with theft following an investigation into a reported shoplifting incident at a Mountain Avenue business.

Police also investigated a report from a Springfield Avenue business involving a stolen and forged check. According to the department, the report was made on May 21, and following an investigation, a 45-year-old Philadelphia man was charged with forgery on July 10.
