Both directions of I-78 in Union County are closed Monday evening due to an overturned truck, according New Jersey State Police. State Police say I-78 east and west at milepost 49.5 in Springfield are completely closed. There is no access to 78 from Rt. 24. A truck carrying a shipping container has overturned and hazmat is responding. No word yet on injuries. Traffic is currently being detoured off of the highway; Springfield Fire Department have established a perimeter until arrival of hazmat, NJ State Police said shortly before 8:15 p.m.
