Caldwell Culvert Project On Track For June 26 Reopening In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The Caldwell Culvert project remains on schedule for a June 26 reopening, with most major construction work expected to wrap up this week, according to Township Committeeman Chris Capodice.

"The Caldwell Culvert project continues to make significant progress and remains on schedule for a June 26 reopening," Capodice said. "Crews are currently installing the stone facing on the retaining walls, and most major construction work is expected to be completed this week."

The project has also produced an unexpected long-term improvement. "An added benefit of the project is that the temporary access drive installed near Ruby Field has worked so well that the county plans to pave it and leave it in place as a permanent entrance for future use," Capodice said.

Separately, the township completed debris removal from the Rahway River through a coordinated effort involving the Springfield Department of Public Works, Union County and the State of New Jersey.

Hazardous trees near Miesel were also removed in preparation for upcoming Fourth of July activities, Capodice said.
