Girl Hid When Man Broke Into Her Home, Police Say.

A teen girl hid when a Newark man forced his way into her Woodbridge home, police said. He was quickly arrested, authorities said.

A Newark man broke into a Woodbridge home while a teenager was home, but the girl hid in another room, and police quickly surrounded the house, authorities said.

The man soon walked out of the house with stolen jewelry and was quickly taken into custody, according to Capt. Roy Hoppock.

He never encountered the girl in the home, and no one was injured, police said.

Andres Rivera, 43, of Summit Avenue, Newark, was charged with burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools.

Just after 11 a.m. Thursday, police were sent to Wood Avenue in the Iselin section of town, after getting a report about a burglary in progress.

Rivera had forced open a rear door.

Officers responded to the home within minutes and set up a perimeter.

Rivera soon walked out, carrying a woman’s purse.

Police arrested him and found he had a screwdriver, along with jewelry he had stolen from the home.

Rivera was sent to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick, with bail set at $500,000.
