“Dawn” features Christian Bale as U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler. After being shot down over Laos, he’s taken prisoner at the Vietnam War’s peak. Help seems unlikely, having been captured on a secret mission. Soon it becomes clear that escape and death are the only options — and time is running out. Werner Herzog directed this based on his documentary Little Dieter Needs To Fly (1997). It also stars Steve Zahn, Jeremy Davies, and Pat Healy. 120 minutes. Rated PG-13.
