Lunchtime Film Series at Springfield Public Library on Monday, December 8th

Monday Dec. 8 at 1pm the "Philip Seymour Hoffman: Three Memorable Films" series continues. Springfield Free Public Library, 66 Mountain Ave.

Don't miss the second film in the Library’s 3-part series.  Hoffman had a co-starring but important role in this film adaptation of George Crile’s bestseller about flamboyant Texas congressman Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks) and the campaign to arm the Afghan mujahideen to defeat the Soviet army during the 1980s conflict.  Hoffman is Gus Avrakatos, the smart CIA agent who partnered with Wilson, and Julia Roberts is Joanne Herring, the Houston socialite who supported the congressman.  Directed by the late Mike Nichols, with a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin.  Rated R.  101 minutes. 
Admission is free.  Patrons can bring lunch - juice or coffee and cookies are served at 12:30 pm and the film starts at 1:00  The Library is located at 66 Mountain Ave. in Springfield.  Call for more information at (973)376-4930.   Funding for the film program is made possible in part by the NJ Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, and by the Friends of the Springfield Public Library.
