On November 29 2016, NJ Governor Chris Christie announced the immediate start of a 4 year, $300 million project to renovate the State House.

We do not object to or question the need for renovation. We do, however, strongly oppose the significant funds allocated to this effort at time when the budget to help address the accelerating heroin and broader opioid epidemic remains sorely underfunded at the state level with facilities for quality treatment and recovery widely unavailable.

We insist that the NJ Legislature and Governor Christie substantially reduce the size of the plan to renovate the State House to a more modest and yet equally effective level. They can then re-purpose the remaining funds to other pressing priorities including dedicating a portion to the needs of those who suffer the disease of addiction throughout the state.

If NJ were to spend say a still significant $50 million on the State House renovation, the remaining $250 million of the apparently available funds could be allocated to treatment and recovery among other priorities. Please join us by signing this petition to reasonably insist that the focus be on the health and very lives of the residents of the NJ, not solely on a building and its infrastructure.
