SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Springfield Police are reporting a rise in motor vehicle burglary incidents and are offering tips for residents to avoid becoming a target.

  • Always keep your vehicle locked when it's parked.
  • Remove or conceal any valuable items. If you must leave valuables in your car, store them in the trunk.
  • Do not leave your vehicle running unattended — even for a minute.
  • Never store spare car or house keys in your vehicle.
  • Be sure to contact the police department immediately if you see something suspicious. Don't wait and don't expect someone else to make the call. It only takes seconds for thieves to burglarize a vehicle.
