Westfield Students Plan Walkout On March 14
Westfield High School students will be walking out of school on March 14 as part of a national student-led gun control protest.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School students will be walking out of school on March 14 as part of a national student-led gun control protest.
Westfield students will be among the students across the country to walk out of the high school at 10 a.m.
The March 14 walkout is part of the Women’s March’s Youth EMPOWER group national movement which encourages teachers, students, administrators, parents and allies to walk out of school for 17 minutes — one for every person killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

“A group of high school students appropriately reached out to principal Dr. Derrick Nelson to schedule a meeting regarding the National School Walkout Day. I have every confidence that both students and staff at Westfield High School will handle this important matter seriously and safely," said Westfield Superintendent Dr. Margaret Dolan.
Several other events are also being planned including the March for Our Lives on March 24 where student organizers are planning a march in Washington, D.C. to call for school safety and gun control.
