Saint James the Apostle School Continues Annual May Crowning Tradition

For centuries, Catholics have honored Mary, the Mother of Jesus, during the month of May with various devotions, often culminating in the crowning of a Marian statue with flowers. Saint James the Apostle School in Springfield continued this practice with its recent May Crowning and Living Rosary. Members of the student body and First Communicants dressed in their Communion attire served as rosary 'beads.' The entire school community, including parents, guardians and parishioners, prayed the Joyous Mysteries of the Rosary led by Father Joseph Barbone, pastor. A statue of the Blessed Mother was then crowned by 8th grader Kayla Flower following a procession of 8th grade students and First Communicants. The May Crowning is a treasured tradition at Saint James the Apostle School.
