Springfield Gets $60K Award To Improve Pavements

The funds will be used for pavement improvements in various streets. A total of $1,500,000 was awarded across Union County municipalities.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Union County awarded Springfield $60,000 to help fund pavement improvements in various streets around town.

The grant is part of an annual infrastructure program developed by the Union County Board of Commissioners. Now in its 7th year, it distributes funds throughout all 21 Union County municipalities.

As in previous years, the most significant type of project being funded was road improvements, with submissions such as the Rahway Resurfacing Project.

“This past winter provided us with plenty of inclement weather and as a result, there are multiple roads in need of repair or resurfacing,” County Commissioner Chairman Alexander Mirabella said.

A total of around $1,500,000 was awarded, to aid Union County municipalities with their projects for 2021.

“Our goal is to provide an economic boost to our municipalities and leverage their funds in making essential improvements,” Fiscal Chair, Commissioner Chris Hudak said. “With more people moving into Union County than ever before, and new development coming on line, it’s important that we continue to make infrastructure our highest priority.”
