Springfield Kids Can Learn Magic Tricks At Summer Camp This Month
Campers keep a professional magic kit and perform in a show on the last day of each weeklong session.
SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Kids can spend part of their summer learning to defy gravity, teleport a robot and open a portal to "magic mail" at a magic camp coming to the Chisholm Community Center this month.
The Academy of Amazement, in partnership with the Springfield Recreation Department, is offering two weeklong camp sessions for children ages 7 to 12: Week 1 runs Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, and Week 2 runs Monday, June 29, through Thursday, July 2. Camp meets from 1 to 4 p.m. daily at the community center, 100 South Springfield Ave.
The program blends magic with social-emotional learning and STEAM concepts, with organizers saying campers will build confidence, social skills, creativity and critical thinking while learning new tricks every day. Each session ends with campers performing or assisting in a student magic show, and parents are invited to attend.

The two sessions form a two-part wand course: Week 1, "Lightning Legends," covers tricks including a magic teleportation machine and predicting the future, while Week 2, "Treasure Hunting," includes magically matching a hidden glove and getting tricky with a magic pen. Campers must complete both sessions to earn the blue magic wand.
The fee is $197 per camper per week and includes a professional magic kit — a $60 value — that campers keep, along with magic folders and a graduation wand. Children enrolled in the Chisholm Playground Camp can join at 12:30 p.m. with time for a bring-your-own lunch.
