Springfield Traffic To Be Impacted Sunday

Drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes on Sunday in anticipation of Springfield Chamber of Commerce's annual festival.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Drivers should expect delays and plan alternate routes on Sunday in anticipation of Springfield Chamber of Commerce's annual festival and car show and Union County's 5K race.

The festival and car show will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Salute to Veterans - Patriot's 5K and fun run will take place from 9 to 11 a.m.

The following are the traffic impacts for the day:

  • Mountain Avenue will be closed from Caldwell Place to Morris Ave. from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. for the street festival.
  • During the 5K run, Mountain Avenue northbound from Shunpike Road to Morris Avenue will be closed, and Meisel Avenue southbound will be closed from Linden Avenue to Milltown Road.
  • Mountain Avenue southbound and Meisel Avenue northbound will remain open — these will be closed sporadically to allow large groups of runners in the 5K race to safely traverse the route. These closures will probably occur between 9 and 10 a.m.
  • Traffic at Mountain Avenue will be diverted up Shunpike Road to Baltusrol Way and then over to Morris Avenue People going to the stores (Bagel etc) can access that area via Warwick Circle and Henshaw Avenue. Westbound Morris Ave. traffic can continue past Meisel Avenue to Caldwell Place and then over to southbound Mountain Avenue
  • South Springfield Avenue northbound will be closed between Fieldstone Drive and Shunpike Road.
