3 Summit Students Awarded For Winning Patriotic Essays
The three students were awarded prizes for their essay submissions in the annual VFW Patriot Pen youth essay competition.

SUMMIT, NJ — Three Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School eighth grade students were awarded prizes for their essay submissions in the annual VFW Patriot Pen youth essay competition.
The Patriot Pen is conducted nationwide and gives students an opportunity to express their views on an annual patriotic theme.
LCJSMS has participated in the contest for many years, routinely producing winning essays. They responded to the theme of "The America I Believe In."

This year's winners are:

- Gia Kalro,
- Hadley Wimsatt.
Frank Perlzak and Steve Falk, members of the Berkeley Heights VFW Post 6259, presented the students with their certificates and prizes. LCJSMS teachers Neal Sharma, Gary Burns, and Grace Buonpane, organized the essay contest in their classes each year.
