SUMMIT, NJ — Commuters at the Summit train station will have to wait a bit longer for repairs to the closed transit stairs, according to city officials.

Mayor Elizabeth Fagan provided an update on the project during a recent Summit Common Council meeting, noting that the stairs have been out of service for an extended period.

“The steps have been closed for quite some time,” Fagan said. “The replacement stairs are currently being fabricated off site.”

While construction has not yet begun at the station, officials said a timeline is now in place for when on-site work will move forward.

“Demolition of the old stairs and installation of the new stairs will happen after July 4,” Fagan said. She added that the city is hopeful the project will be completed by the end of the summer.

Fagan also credited local state representatives for their involvement in moving the project forward, saying their advocacy has helped maintain communication with New Jersey Transit.
