SUMMIT, NJ — Summit residents and their four-legged companions have a temporary new spot to visit as the city continues exploring options for a permanent dog park.

A pop-up dog park is now open on the Village Green across from the post office, giving residents a chance to test out the location while officials gather community feedback.

Mayor Elizabeth Fagan is encouraging residents to stop by and take part in a survey that will help guide the decision on where a permanent dog park could eventually be built.

“These pop up dog parks are part of the city’s effort to gather resident input on potential new locations for a future permanent dog park,” Fagan said in a recent message to residents.

The Village Green location is the first in a rotating series of temporary sites being tested. City officials said Memorial Field is expected to be the next location as part of the evaluation process.

The city currently has a permanent dog park located at the transfer station, but officials are exploring whether additional or alternative sites could improve accessibility for more residents across Summit.

Residents are encouraged to visit the temporary dog park and share feedback through an online survey available at cityofsummit.org/dogparksurvey.

Officials say community input will play a key role in shaping the future of the project as the city weighs potential locations for a permanent facility.
