SUMMIT, NJ — Summit officials say construction is now underway on the Mount Vernon Avenue and Kent Place Boulevard Improvement Project, with contractors beginning exploratory work in the roadway earlier this week.
The project area stretches from Passaic Avenue to the city limits near the Passaic River bridge and will include drainage upgrades, curb and sidewalk improvements, milling and paving.
Drivers should expect road closures and detours during portions of the project as work continues over the coming weeks.
City officials said access to New Providence Avenue and the transfer station via Kent Place Boulevard and Passaic Avenue will remain open on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22.
The city expects the project to be completed by early to mid-June.
Additional updates, including paving and milling schedules, are expected as the work progresses.
