SUMMIT, NJ — Summit’s annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony will take place Monday, May 25, beginning at 10 a.m., according to city officials.
The parade will begin at 25 Deforest Ave. and proceed to the Village Green. The event honors military members who lost their lives in service to the country.
Members of Summit American Legion Post #322 will lead the parade, joined by the Summit High School marching band, Summit Police Department, Summit Fire Department, Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad and local scout troops.
Residents are encouraged to watch along Deforest Avenue, Beechwood Road, Union Place and Maple Street near the Village Green. Veterans will distribute flags to spectators along the route.
Following the parade, a ceremony on the Village Green will include music from the Summit High School marching band, a rifle salute, wreath-laying, a performance of Taps, remarks from Mayor Elizabeth Fagan and readings from local students.
Veterans attending the ceremony will receive a 2026 commemorative coin recognizing their service.
Free hot dogs and cold drinks will also be available on the Village Green through the Summit Elks Lodge and Summit PAL.
