SUMMIT, NJ — Summit’s Memorial Day parade scheduled for Monday has been canceled due to forecasted bad weather, city officials announced Sunday night.
While the parade will no longer take place, the Memorial Day ceremony is still scheduled to be held on the Village Green at 11 a.m., according to the city.
Officials said the decision was made because of concerns involving marching safety, band equipment, and speaker systems in wet conditions.
“Memorial Day remains an important time to pause and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation,” the city said in a statement.
City officials said they expect the rain to clear by the delayed ceremony start time and encouraged residents to attend and pay tribute to fallen service members.
